Art and Soul Retreat

Last week I was in Vegas to attend the Art and Soul Retreat, what fun.   Not only did I meet great people, learn some new techniques and bring home finished projects but I got to enjoy the weather, the slots and the resort.  Did I say there was a Mall adjoining the hotel?    What more could a girl ask for, I even had a king size bed to myself.
My first day class was with Julie Haymaker Thompson, The Rising Sun.  We embellished a small birdhouse, using paper clay for the face and wheels, pewter for the roof, scraps of paper collage and small beads and trim.   A fun project I now have setting on my living room bookshelf.

The second day was Two for Tuesday, taught by Lisa Kaus.  Two projects in one day.  The first is the picture on the right, we glued bits of paper randomly over the face of the house, smudged with white paint then embellished with treasures.  This was suppose to have an small bottle attached in the center but I didn't bring a bottle.  Of course a glitter covered bird finishes the piece.

The second project on Tuesday was really fun, I learned to use water soluble crayons.  Can't wait to try them out at home.
My final day was again with Lisa Kaus, Color My World.   Using a piece of MDF board, we created a design then colored layer upon layer of water soluble crayons.  Then added some collage pieces and finished with a coat of hot beeswax.   The beeswax gives it such depth, a completely different finish then I have ever used.

I've linked both Artist/Teachers to their websites.  Both very talented artist, check out their personal art.

What a great escape this trip was.  One more day just to sit by the pool would have been nice.  But this is our busy season at work so was lucky to get enough time off for the classes I wanted.   Here's a pix of  the view from my lounge chair during lunch break.  Although it was a little overcast, it was not raining buckets as it was at home.  The temp was just enough to sit out without a jacket.
I think I need to do this more often, I haven't until last spring taken any art classes for years.  There are so many new products out there to try.   Now back to reality and the projects at hand.

Thanks for visiting.
