Word Verification

To re-activate or not that is the question.  In the last few days since removing word verification I've received several spam comments from someone called "Anonymous."  One was not really words but the other was something about a blow job?  In the 2 years I've had this blog I have never received any spam until now.  I have not had word verification until recently when Blogger made changes.

Maybe I'm a little naive but what's to gain from these spam messages?  I don't get it.  Are they just to annoy us or are they carrying virus'.  All my comments have to be checked by me before posting so they don't go straight to my blog.

I don't mind the word verification, it's just that lately it has been made so difficult, it's hard to leave comments, I've given up on some after trying several times.  That's not good, we all thrive on the comments, we are a needy bunch.  Plus we want to know someone out there is interested in what we have to share and for those that are depending on the traffic for income this is even more important.

So what can we do, complain to Blogger?  Or Google?  I know many of us have been talking about the issue but who can we contact that will get our message.  We could occupy something, or have a protest march, or a sit in............  That actually might be fun we could have wine and chocolates brought in.

So what do you think, what's happen to you since removing word verification, have you removed it?

That's my ranting for today.

Blogger has changed their word verification to one that is extremely irritating so I removed it from my blog. I, too, have been getting "anonymous" comments but they never appear on the blog. At least Blogger is doing a good job of keeping the spam from going through. I just don't understand what these spammers get from doing this. If they put as much time and effort into something positive just think what they could accomplish.

Hi, Oh, I love your blog and Eloise is my favorite name. You know what I do to keep this from happening, I approve all of my comments, but I don't bother with word verification. I had spam problems a few years ago and have approving my comments ever since. I ask to be sent an e-mail when I receive a comment, so I know that one has been left.

I agree with Janet, isn't it terrible that these unpleasant people can't find nicer things to do with their time.

Thank you so much for stopping by Focusing On Life.

I agree that the new word verification is annoying, but I haven't removed it. It certainly makes it harder to leave a message, but I take my time trying to figure out the letters. You are right that we love our comments!! Yes, we are a needy bunch! Well put!!

I've never used word verification. I do get some comments from anonymous once in a while but they never show up on my blog they just come to me thru email and i delete them, no big deal......and i have no idea what the spammers gain from this...sigh...

I understand the theory behind word verification, and I understand moderating comments. What I don't get are blogs that do both! I find the verification process so difficult at times that it keeps me from commenting. I have a self-hosted Wordpress blog, so I have the option of a compromise: First time commenters are moderated, but once you've had a comment approved, readers can comment at will.
